Crawling, Laughing, . . . Walking???
I refused to voice the words, “I can’t wait until . . . ,” because I never wanted to rush my little guy, but Ben has insisted on rushing into things anyway. He is officially crawling. The books say I shouldn’t expect him to be crawling so soon, but he obviously hasn’t read the books.
And we complained that he was always smiling, but not really laughing . . . well, all of that’s changed. Today he decided that he would roll over while I was trying to change his diaper and when I stopped him, said “No thank you” and rolled him back, not only did he grimace, but he chuckled. When he opted to do the same thing again, instead of a chuckle – he laughed. This continued until his diaper was changed and I was picking him up off the table.
The laughing continued after dinner when I got on the floor to pick up the toys he dropped (he was still in his seat) and I decided to pop up and startle him with, “Boo!” He jumped and then laughed and laughed! I couldn’t help but do it over and over until my knees couldn’t take it any more. A baby’s laugh is intoxicating.
What’s next? Walking? Uh, I’m not ready. As it is he’ll pull himself up into a standing position and grin so widely I know it’s only a matter of time. Doesn’t he know I am relying on him to stay still, completely dependent on me?! Maybe I need to start reading him the books on how he should be developing instead of the fun ones that are promoting his imagination and creativity.
Ah well, I suppose these things happen. Instead of focusing on what’s to come, I’ll just revel in what’s happening now. But you still won’t hear me say, “I can’t wait . . . ,” because I CAN!
